Grouping to Gauleiter Otto Telschow – Gau Ost-Hannover

Otto Telschow (*27 February 1876 in Wittenberge; †31 May 1945 in Lüneburg) was a Gauleiter of the NSDAP, from 1925 to 1928 in Gau Lüneburg-Stade and from 1928 in Gau Ost-Hannover, as well as a member of the Reichstag from 1930 to 1945. In addition, he was a police official, State Councillor, and Reich Defence Commissioner.

After the NSDAP was re-established in 1925, he joined the party and received the low membership number 7,057. From 1925 to 1928 he was NSDAP Gauleiter of Gau Lüneburg-Stade, which was reorganized as Gau Ost-Hannover in 1928. As the successor to Bernhard Rust, Telschow served as Gauleiter of Ost-Hannover from 1928 until 1945 and was therefore also responsible for the Geestemünde area and later Bremerhaven on behalf of the party.

From 1930 to 1945, Telschow was a member of the Reichstag.

Telschow fled his villa at Schießgrabenstraße 8/9 in Lüneburg (Telschow Villa) before the arrival of British forces and went to a hunting lodge near Dahlenburg (Sommerbeck). There he was arrested by British soldiers, during which he attempted suicide. He was taken back to Lüneburg, where he died on 31 May 1945 as a result of the suicide attempt.
